Passage Read: Isaiah 15-18
Meditation Verses: 17:7-9

Thought

Sadly, it often takes extreme tragedy for men to turn back to their Maker. Not until these nations are overthrown and everything lost, and the people who survive are few in number, then they remember the Lord and turn away from their idols. How much better it would be for people if in their prosperity and good fortune that they remembered they were created by the Lord and blessed by Him, and so honor Him alone, while all went well with them. But how quickly we throw off restraint. We gain the means, and we think we're powerful, and nothing, not even God, can disturb us. So we turn to our own ways, we make gods, if necessary, who will permit and approve our wants and wicked wishes.

Application

The Lord is my Maker; everything I am and everything I enjoy comes from Him. He deserves not just my praise and gratitude, but my submission and obedience. He made me to live according to His instructions; I would be a fool to ignore His wisdom and His design. I would be a fool to think I know a better way to live than what He has revealed in His Word. I don't want to invite His destruction or devastation in order to finally remember Him. I want to remember and honor Him now, while things are still good.
