Passage Read: Proverbs 30 - Ecclesiastes 2
Meditation Verse: Ecclesiastes 2:24

Thought

This is truly the way of most people. Whatever they do, some people recognize that all their labor is just for their stomach. There is no special meaning or value, but they must tell themselves that it is good, that it is worthwhile, that it has value. But so much that is fine under the sun is pointless. There is no real value in it; it all just perpetuates the "circle of life." It all just keeps things running, for one generation to give way to the next, and on and on. Nothing is accomplished; nothing is finished. It all comes back around and needs to be done again. It is truly vanity and a chasing of the wind.

Application

There is nothing better than to be content with what I have, to labor sufficiently to provide for my needs, and to tell myself that my labor is good. There is nothing better than to find enjoyment in each day. There is nothing better, unless I can be involved in something that has eternal value, then I can be doing something that affects eternity or stores up treasure in heaven. That is the only thing that gives value to my labors on this earth. Choosing to suffer for Christ's sake, for the sake of the gospel; choosing to humble myself and become the servant of all, serving others in ways that Christ desires, all that is a far better use of the few days I have on earth.
