Thought

The Sabbath was made for the benefit of man, not for his harm, not to bind him, but to free him. It was to be a day free from work, a day to rest, to stay home and relax and enjoy all that God has provided. Not a day to do evil, but a day to do good, to enjoy friends and neighbors and family. The scribes and scholars turned it into a burdensome thing. What God made for good, men distorted into something hard. The priests are guiltless though they keep working on the Sabbath, because they are doing good, serving both God and men.

Application

The Sabbath wasn't created to strike fear into the hearts of men, but to bring good, to bring peace, and to teach trust in the Lord rather than in our labor for our provision and well-being. Enjoy it as a day off, enjoy it as a day to rest, enjoy it as a day to enjoy friends and family, as a day to bless others rather than labor.
