Passage Read: Matthew 17-18
Meditation Verses: 17:17-20

Thought

Jesus calls out His own disciples, not just the crowd or the father or the child! If they had faith as small as a mustard seed, they could move mountains! Casting out that demon would have been a simple thing! But they do not have even that little faith. Jesus calls them unbelieving! And this after they were given authority and went out to preach and cast out demons and heal diseases. They had that experience, and as far as we know, the authority was not taken back. So Jesus calls them not just unbelieving, but perverse. They've twisted things and mixed them up and there is an evil element to it. It is wrong for them to have so little faith, especially in the presence of Jesus!

Application

If I have faith as small as a mustard seed, I can say to a mountain, "Move from here to there," and it will move. I can't imagine doing that; I don't even have the faith of a mustard seed! I too am part of a perverse and unbelieving generation! My lack of faith is a discredit to my Lord, who has absolute and total power, who can do anything in all creation! But I live like He can do nothing! Lord, increase my faith, please! Let me have faith that honors You. "I do believe; help me overcome my unbelief."
