Passage Read: Acts 24-25
Meditation Verse: 25:11

Thought

Paul had been in prison two years, and he was no closer to Rome and no closer to being set free. Whatever means God intended to use to bring him to Rome to testify had not materialized. For two years he had had conversations with Felix, and now Felix was gone and Paul was still a prisoner. It became clear to Paul that he would need to appeal to Caesar, especially when offered the chance to return to Jerusalem. That was going backwards not forward. He doubtless had had as many conversations about Christ as possible and was feeling the need to move on. Perhaps he saw how effective a ministry he could have even as a prisoner and was ready for a new field.

Application

There are times when we need to make requests and appeals to continue the work Christ has for us. God doesn't do everything for us at all key junctures. Paul was patient, trusting God to take care of his case and do with him as He pleased. But at this point, it became clear to him that he needed to appeal to Caesar in order to move the ball forward. I too need to be content with my circumstances, but also take care to listen to God, and if it becomes apparent that I need to make a move to change my circumstances, then I need to make that move. I don't want to be content with fruitlessness, but as long as there is opportunity to proclaim Christ, I should take it.
