Passage Read: Hebrews 9-10
Meditation Verses: 10:26-31

Thought

A few verses earlier, the author reminds us that we have had our consciences sprinkled clean from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water. We have been made holy by the sacrifice of Jesus Christ once for all. We have been remade in order to walk in the righteousness that God always desired from mankind. We have nothing to keep us from doing so, but our own old willfulness. So if we hear the truth and instructions in righteousness and we deliberately choose to ignore them, we are trampling underfoot the Lord Jesus Christ and regarding His blood as an unclean thing and insulting the Spirit of grace. Our God is a holy, avenging God; He does not take rebellion lightly! He has in the past and will now and into the future continue to judge His people. So we can and should be absolutely sure that He will not let us get away with disregarding His Son and His Will. If we claim Jesus for salvation but ignore Him as Lord, we are doomed. There is no salvation for us!

Application

I cannot claim to know and love Jesus if I do not obey His commands and instructions. That's what He redeemed me for! But if I carry on going my own way, living by my own or worldly wisdom, I am treating Jesus' sacrifice with contempt and rejecting the Holy Spirit who is trying to instruct me. God is insulted, and He will repay me! I'm rejecting His whole purpose for sending Jesus! And God will avenge His Son and my mistreatment of Him. All Scripture is God-breathed, and not merely useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, but necessary and given for those purposes! I invite God's wrath if I treat it lightly and ignore what it teaches.
