Passage Read: Revelation 7-8
Meditation Verse: 7:3
Thought
Before God can begin His wrath on mankind, He marks a portion of the Jews from each remaining tribe, to protect them, and He removes all those who have believed in Christ from the earth. All non-Christian Jews must go through the torment of those days, but no Christian will. Of the Jews who endure it, 144,000 will be marked as a special possession of the Lord's, preserved through His wrath on mankind. It is not necessary for God to remove all who believe in Him, but it certainly makes things easier, since believers come from all nations and would be spread across the globe. That makes it easier to pour out His wrath on all the nations and defend Israel proper.
Application
I can already rejoice over salvation, belonging to the Lord, because I know that while I may have to suffer the tribulation, I won't have to suffer the much worse wrath of God. No need to fear men who can only kill the body. Nor should I belittle the pain that men can bring on their fellow man, it can be truly horrible. But hell is far worse. Men can only torment me for a short time, till I die. Those who hate Jesus will be tormented forever.
