Passage Read: Isaiah 27-30
Meditation Verses: 29:10-14

Thought

Jerusalem has wise men, they have discerning men, but they do not speak from the Lord. The prophets and seers are no more, the Lord has ceased to speak to and through them. God's prophetic words to them have become impossible for them to read and understand. They cannot understand the Lord because their worship of Him is in vain. They honor Him with their words and with their lips, but their hearts are far from Him; their reverence is just tradition learned by rote. They don't revere Him from the heart, they just go through motions that have the appearance of worship. They have given their hearts to other things; things of this world, things of their own pleasures and passions. So God must once again do something wondrously marvelous.

Application

For all our wisdom, unless we are submitted to the Lord in truth, in obedience, we too will be blind to His Word and revelation. His book will be sealed so that we cannot read it or we will be like the illiterate, who couldn't read it if we wanted to. We can worship the Lord all we want with our mouths, but if our hearts do not honor Him such that we do what He commands in reverence of Him, we will not understand anything He is doing or has planned. The wisdom and discernment of the men of this age counts for nothing, in fact it is a hindrance to knowing the truth about the Lord. Like in days gone by, if I claim to know and love the Lord but do not humble myself to do all He asks, if I come up with clever reasons why certain commands might apply to others but not me, then I am as much a hypocrite as those in Jesus's day, who were on the path to Hell. Genuine worship and reverence leads to obedience, and to understanding all the Lord has recorded for us to know. Worldly wisdom and discernment seals the Word of God in our faces.
