Passage Read: 2 Chronicles 6-9
Meditation Verses: 7:13-14

Thought

This well-known verse comes on the heels of disastrous conditions that God brings on the people. If the Lord sends pestilence or drought or locusts on the land, it is for discipline, because the people have sinned in some way. He promised that in such circumstances, if His people will humble themselves and pray and seek His face and turn from their wicked ways, then He will hear from heaven, forgive their sin and heal their land. Repentance is in sight here, because the Lord has brought these disasters because of their sin.

Application

Today, if we want to claim this promise, we need to recognize that we have sinned, and we need to repent of our sin, turning from our wicked ways, and seek the Lord. If we believe trouble has come on us, and it has in many forms, then we need to acknowledge our failings, our sin before the Lord, and renounce them, that He may turn from His anger and forgive us and heal our land. We can't just seek the Lord and implore Him for healing; we must repent of the wickedness that moved Him to bring the trouble on our land.
