Passage Read: 1 Chronicles 23-26
Meditation Verses: 23:30-31

Thought

Certain Levites were set apart to sing thanks and praise to the Lord at the time of the morning and evening sacrifices. The sacrifices were offered to the Lord on behalf of the nation, and they were to be offered at all times, not just on special occasions. Likewise, the singing was supposed to happen, whether there were people in the courts or not. The singing was to God, not to the people. The singing was on behalf of the people, and anyone in or around the Temple could hear it, learn the songs and sing along, but this doesn't sound like leading people in corporate worship. This was singing to God and for God.

Application

We are to speak to one another in psalms, hymns and spiritual songs, but we can and should sing directly to God and for Him alone. Songs of praise help us praise Him and songs of thanksgiving help us thank Him. It is good and right to sing alone to the Lord, without thought of other people, without the need for other people, because the singing is to and for God; the audience is God alone. I don't need to sing to God only when others are around, because God deserves praise from me at all times. And it would be good to begin my day and end my day with songs of praise and thanks to God.
