Passage Read: Habakkuk 3 - Zephaniah 3
Meditation Verse: Zephaniah 2:3

Thought

Humility and obedience, humility and righteousness are combined here. The Lord calls out to the humble of the land who do what He commands, He calls them to seek righteousness and to seek humility, and in so doing perhaps they will be sheltered from the Lord's anger on the day He judges Israel. Humility is key to obedience; humility is needed in order to seek righteousness. Because we must submit ourselves to God's leadership and lordship, to do what He requires. The arrogant don't listen to others; they are a law unto themselves. It is only those who are truly humble who actually listen to the Lord and do what He requires. To seek righteousness and to do it requires a humbling of oneself before the Lord, acknowledging that He is Lord and has every right and all wisdom to instruct in righteousness.

Application

Without humility, no one can or will do what God considers good and right. I must continually humble myself before the Lord, so that I can learn and do what He considers righteous. Arrogance keeps me from obedience because I refuse to humble myself before the Lord; I think too highly of myself, I think I know better than God, I think I'm wiser than God. How foolish is that?! God alone knows what is good and right for all generations. What He commands, I must do, no matter how this generation rails against it. No one knows better than God. He is a fool who thinks he knows better.
