Passage Read: Zechariah 7-10
Meditation Verses: 8:14-17

Thought

In the past, Israel and Judah provoked the Lord to wrath, and He drove them out of their land because they had polluted their good land by their sins. But now He has determined to do them good, and He will likewise not repent of His intention. But here He calls them to speak truth to each other, judge fairly, do not devise evil against a neighbor and do not swear falsely, because these are all things He hates. These are the same things He required of their fathers, but their fathers refused to obey and so He judged them. God does not change, He desires that His people treat each other honorably and truthfully. That has been His instruction from the beginning, even to today!

Application

Though God promises to do good to His people and not repent of it, yet He still calls them to walk in kindness, honesty and justice with one another. The New Testament says the same thing. God has not changed and He still expects His people to walk in truth and honesty and justice. I cannot love my neighbor as myself without honesty, kindness, truth and justice. It's all He's ever asked, and it will always be what He asks.
