Passage Read: Luke 1-2
Meditation Verse: 1:15

Thought

John was filled with the Spirit from his mother's womb, so that when Mary came with Jesus in her womb, John leaped with joy within his mother. Yet we hear nothing more of John until he comes in preparation for the Lord. He didn't speak in tongues or do any amazing miracles, but lived in the wilderness, learning from the Lord, waiting for the day when he was sent to start and fulfill his mission. He would become a prophet who burned brightly for a short time, then was snuffed out.

Application

Being filled with the Spirit doesn't mean you are in the limelight all the time or that you are regularly overcome with strange behaviors or perform miracles. Being filled with the Spirit means the Spirit is in you and you have the opportunity to know things that most people don't. You can understand the mind of Christ because His Spirit is in you and willing to speak to you. All I have to do is listen, and I have His voice made all the more clear because of the Scriptures. I can understand Him and discern His voice and leading and wisdom because I know and continue to read the Scriptures. In truth, coming to know who God is and what He desires, and doing it, is far greater evidence that the Spirit dwells in a person than signs and miracles. For in truth, some have performed signs and miracles who were not from God and did not love God!
