Passage Read: Matthew 23-24
Meditation Verse: 24:45

Thought

The faithful and wise servant will continue to feed and care for the master's other servants right up to the master's return. When the master returns and finds him so doing, he will put that servant in charge of all his possessions. Jesus puts some servants in charge of the other servants of His household, and being in charge means providing for their nourishment at proper times. But temptation will come in at least two forms: The master is a long time in coming, so that servant takes advantage of his fellow servants, abusing them and using his position and the master's possessions for his own fleshly desires: or, he sees the trouble coming, and he disappears, so that he's not a target for those who oppose the master. He leaves the other servants to be attacked and killed in order to save his own life.

Application

To be a faithful servant requires trusting in the Lord, that He will return and reward those who fulfill the responsibilities given by Him. It also requires fearing the Lord more than men who hate and oppose Him. Because this servant must faithfully care for the other servants right up to the return of their Master, which will happen when great pressure comes to abandon the Lord. My eyes must be on the Lord first, even in His absence, to fulfill the duties He's given me, even when outside pressures (or internal pressures) tempt me to abandon my post.
