Passage Read: Matthew 19-20
Meditation Verses: 20:26-28
Thought
Jesus served everyone who came to Him, He healed everyone who came to Him, but He didn't grant every request. He served everyone, but not as their absolute slave. There were requests He denied, like to make one brother divide the inheritance. He ultimately served His Father. He came to do the will of His Father, not the will of men. He didn't submit to the disciples when they insisted He not be crucified. Yet He says to His disciples that they're supposed to be the servants of everyone: "must be your servant, your slave." There are parameters, but how exactly they fit together, I don't fully understand.
Application
I'm supposed to serve my family by providing for them. Should I let them do whatever they want with themselves, have no requirements or requests made of them? Should I only exist to serve them and anyone else around me? Many people would say that I should serve my wife, and they mean do whatever she asks and grant whatever she wants. Is it my pride that makes that seem so wrong? I don't know what to do.
