Passage Read: Matthew 11-12
Meditation Verses: 12:41-42

Thought

There are those who are believing Jesus, many of whom are actually repenting and learning to do good. But there are still many more who refuse to believe. The repentant know that these words are not spoken against them, and the unrepentant are insulted. So Jesus can speak to the crowds without fear of insulting those who truly believe. To paint with such broad brushes is not wrong or dangerous, but puts those who need it on warning, and those who have believed continue to trust the Lord.

Application

To speak to a room and call it unrepentant does not shake the faith of those who believe, because they are humble enough to know that they still need to work on things or recognize that they have indeed come to faith in Christ. The only people such a statement would threaten are those who are unwilling to humble themselves before God, they believe that they have repented, but they know they are not walking in obedience or submission, so they are correctly called out but unwilling to change, so they are threatened and plot to attack the speaker. They prove the speaker correct.
