Passage Read: 2 Samuel 10-13
Meditation Verse: 12:14

Thought

What enemies of God would these be, that blasphemed the Lord? Who knew about David's sin except the servants who brought Bathsheba to him and the scribe who recorded the message to Joab that told him what to do with Uriah? Were they the enemies of God or the people who would tell those who hated God about David's sin? Or does God mean Satan and his rebel angels? Are there some angels still on the fence about following God, and this gives them cause to despise the Lord? Or does He speak about people who will come later and read all these things and use them to justify their rejection of the Lord? It could be all of these! What is clear is that God has enemies who look for cause to blaspheme Him, and they look for it in us and our behavior.

Application

What I do brings God honor or brings Him shame. How I behave gives God's enemies cause to blaspheme Him or silences them. They will use my deeds against God or be silenced by them. I don't know who His enemies are, whether spiritual or corporeal, but I know that there are many who still to mock and discredit God, and I don't want to give them justification. So for the sake of His name and reputation, I need to live as He desires and not seek my own will. I need to do good as He defines it and not violate any of His commands. God's enemies will find cause, but I don't have to be a source for them.
