Passage Read: 1 Samuel 25-28
Meditation Verse: 25:17

Thought

Nabal was impossible to deal with. He was known for being harsh and evil in his dealings. He knew exactly who David was and probably why he was fleeing from Saul. He was willing to feed his shearers, but not extend any kindness to David and his men, who had protected Nabal's shepherds and sheep in the wilderness. He was happy to receive benefit from strangers, but not to accept any responsibility for repaying the favor, especially since he didn't ask for the kindness. He was considered a worthless man and a fool that no one could speak to. Being rich, he thought he could do whatever he wanted.

Application

God let Nabal get away with his evil ways for a long time. But when he crossed David, that was it. Abigail stayed David's hand, so that he did not avenge himself on Nabal, but God saw the insult and decided it was time for Nabal's life to end. God does not honor the stingy, selfish and arrogant man. These are not qualities I want to be known by. I do want to hear what people have to say and I want to be generous with what little I have. If someone does me a kindness, I should be willing to thank them in whatever way I can.
