Passage Read: Genesis 44-48
Meditation Verses: 45:5-8

Thought

Joseph had already pieced together that he had been sent ahead of his family to Egypt for their preservation, so he wasn't bitter at all, despite more than twelve years of servitude and imprisonment. Most people today would have a hard time forgiving their family for causing such suffering, but not Joseph. Surely when he became prime minister, he was shocked and amazed at how God was rewarding him for his faithfulness. And when his brothers showed up, he must have understood the bigger picture.

Application

Perhaps my life is just a series of unrelated events, some good, some bad. Perhaps it is moving in a direction I don't yet see. What matters is that I work at being faithful to God in every circumstance. Whatever I can do for His kingdom, I should be diligent to do. If it becomes apparent that all this is for something bigger, great! But if the hardship is just hardship with no special meaning, I still shouldn't let it embitter me. I am the Lord's, to do with as He pleases.
