Passage Read: Psalm 35-38
Meditation Verses: 38:17-20

Thought

David has so many psalms about enemies hating him so much that he needs God's deliverance. Here he is discouraged by his own sin, broken over it, confessing it, and his enemies are surrounding him and pressing in on him. He is often overwhelmed by the wicked who hate him without cause. Their only reason is because he does what is good. David is committed to doing what is pleasing to the Lord, he is committed to seeking the way of the Lord and doing it. Though he stumbles and falls on occasion, yet he sees himself as one who does what is right, to the point that his enemies hate him for the good way he follows.

Application

If I commit myself to doing what is good and right and let these things consume me, I too will have enemies who hate me without cause, their only cause being my determination to live in the likeness of Christ. But who wants to rock the boat? Who wants to stir up trouble? If I look at those around me and consider peace with them as more important, then I cannot walk in the ways of the Lord for fear of inciting those around me to anger. But if I become deaf and blind to those around me and only see the Lord and only desire to please Him, I will look at some point and realize that many around me hate me. Give me the courage to seek You alone, Lord.
