Passage Read: Psalm 27-30
Meditation Verse: 27:13
Thought
David says this kind of thing a lot, that he must be alive to praise the Lord, that he must remain alive or else it would be bad for the Lord or he would miss out on the Lord's goodness. He does not have a clear or complete understanding of life after death. To him, death means burial and decay, and the end of all his praise and enjoyment of God. He doesn't fully understand what Jesus pointed out, that all are alive to God, even those who have departed in death, so He calls Himself the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. He longs to dwell in the house of the Lord forever, but doesn't realize that he will do exactly that. He longs to seek the face of the Lord, but doesn't realize he will be able to see the face of God after this life ends!
Application
There is no need to despair if I must endure trial and hardship right up to the last day I dwell on earth, not if I trust fully in Jesus Christ for salvation and walk in His ways in love for Him. Then I know I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever, and I will see His face at all times for eternity. Death is the beginning of my rest from my labors; death is the beginning of the end of my struggle with sin! Death means resurrection must follow and I finally inherit the fullness of the eternal life promised to me. In this hope I was saved, that this life is not all there is, but there is a better life waiting across the threshold of death! If I don't ever see the goodness of God again in this land of the living, I will see it forevermore in that land of the eternally living.
