Passage Read: Psalm 99-102
Meditation Verses: 99:6-9

Thought

Moses and Aaron were among God's priests; Samuel was one who called on God's Name. They called upon the Lord and He answered them. He was a forgiving God to them, yet also an avenger of their evil deeds. Moses was kept out of the promised land for one sin; Aaron also died short of Canaan. Samuel lived out his days without any sin held against him, but the people asked him for a king because his sons did not walk in Samuel's ways. God forgave their sin but also punished their sin. The two are not mutually exclusive: God can and does forgive sin, yet He also punishes His faithful followers for their sin. The result, according to this Psalm is that we should exalt the Lord and worship Him.

Application

God is the only one who can forgive my sin, so He is worthy of worship. He also has power to punish my sin in whatever way He chooses, even if He forgives it! He is almighty and worthy of exaltation. He alone is God, full of compassion to forgive, and faithful in justice and righteousness to punish my evil deeds. He is worthy of all praise and honor; I should exalt Him.
