Passage Read: Psalm 83-86
Meditation Verses: 83:15-18

Thought

This is the prayer of a man who loves God and His people. He pleads with God against the enemies who desire to destroy God's people. He pleads with God to terrify them and pursue them and destroy them, that they would know that the Lord is the Most High, ruling over all the earth. Jesus told us to pray for those who persecute us and do good to those who hate us without cause. But He also hammered the Pharisees and teachers of the Law who opposed His people with their unholy commands and expectations! There are those who are dead set against God and His people, and we should pray for their repentance, otherwise, they are storing up such wrath against themselves! If only they would repent! But there are far more who will not repent than those who will. And it should be compassion on those who are abused that should drive us to pray against the wicked who do evil against God's people, against any powerless people.

Application

Lord, I do ask that you would bring these powerful people to repentance, now before they can do any more harm. But You know whom You have chosen and which ones You will bring to repentance. Let those who have no hope be driven mad in their wickedness, let them be tormented now in their souls over the evil they are doing, let Your Spirit confront them now and destroy them, that they may know that You are Most High over all the earth. That all would be warned that You are watching and that You will act on behalf of Your people and Your Name.
