Passage Read: Psalm 75-78
Meditation Verses: 78:9-12
Thought
Ephraim was unfaithful to the Lord, turning back in the day of battle, not keeping God's covenant, refusing to walk in the Lord's law, forgetting God's deeds and miracles. At that point, Asaph begins recounting all God's deeds and might in bringing the Israelites out of Egypt. The Exodus and the wanderings in the wilderness and the gaining of Canaan should be all we need to know the power and might of the Lord, so that we trust in Him and obey Him. That should be sufficient to give us courage for battle and faithful obedience to the Lord's Word. There are many other miracles recorded in Scripture, if those were not enough. And today we can look back on the miracle of the incarnation and resurrection of God's Son. How much more should we today be faithful and obedient to the Lord, and filled with courage to fight for Him!
Application
The record of God's miracles and deeds in Scripture should be sufficient for me to fully fear the Lord and love Him and walk in obedience to Him. Paul reminds me that all these things that happened in the past were written to teach me not to repeat the mistakes of the Israelites. I must not turn back from the Lord or His battles. I must not turn away from His covenant or commands. I must not forget His deeds and miracles. He has given me everything I need for life and godliness; therefore, I must live a godly life, knowing and doing all His holy desire.
