Feeding of the Five Thousand. Walking on Water. Two of Jesus' most famous miracles. But was there more to the story? How do you respond when God makes promises to you but doesn't fulfill them in the time frame you expected? Would you, like Sarah, want to "help" God out? Remind Him of His obligation? Or can you remember who's Lord, and trust Him to keep His word at the right time? Jesus' own disciples struggled to remember who's who, but Jesus eventually set them straight. From Matthew 14:13-36.

False prophets tell us what we want to hear: that everything's just fine, no need to worry, everything will work out for the best. True prophets tell us what we need to hear in order to get right and stay right with God. God has not changed His standard of righteousness. In fact, He has given all those who believe in His Son all the tools they need to walk in righteousness--including one another. We're all called to be true prophets in protecting one another and helping each other walk in faithfulness and obedience to Christ. That's a side of love that needs more airtime. But it comes with a price. John the Baptist illustrates this love, the love that lays down its life for a "friend." From Matthew 14:1-12.

How precious is the Kingdom of Heaven to you? What do our lives show? What do our priorities reveal about our valuation of the Kingdom? Jesus shares a couple of parables about how much we should value His Kingdom, and really, about how greatly we should value Him and what He's done for us. Even His own family, His hometown didn't accept Him. How about us? Are we willing to "pay the price" to "own" Jesus and His Kingdom? From Matthew 13:44-58.

In this section of Matthew 13, Jesus gives us three parables that prophesy about the future of the Kingdom of Heaven. Two are fairly obvious and it would be fair to consider them fulfilled. The third is intriguing for the details it contains, and the promises yet to be fulfilled. From Matthew 13:24-43.
