Passage Read: Job 21-24
Meditation Verses: 23:11-12

Thought

Eliphaz is tired of Job's complaining and claiming innocence, so now he makes wild accusations. Surely Job has done something wrong in order to incur this suffering from God! But here Job declares his innocence, and not just innocence, but faithfulness! He has followed hard after God, walking in His ways according to all he understands. He has not only been diligent to obey, but he has delighted in the Lord's words. They are his most precious treasure! Who can say that? Is it any wonder God would point him out as the most righteous man on Earth? These are the keys to confidence before God: To love His Word more than anything else and to be diligent to do it. It can only come from faith in God and healthy fear of Him. He delights in the Lord and respects His power and right to judge. He doesn't obey out of fear of destruction, but out of love for Him and His holiness.

Application

It is possible to be righteous before God. It is not out of reach! But it requires Job's kind of faith and love in the Lord, to love Him so much that I treasure His words more than my daily food and commit myself to doing them no matter what. If my only thought was to please and honor the Lord because of all He has done for me, no, better yet, because of all He is as Creator and Lord of all. My devotion should begin and end with Him, not me. I am not the center of the universe, He is! And He is the most excellent and glorious One, to whom I owe everything, including worship which is obedience. He is worthy and all He says is right.
