Passage Read: Ezekiel 4-7
Meditation Verse: 6:9

Thought

God is grieved by our adulterous hearts, which turn away from Him, and our eyes, which lust after idols. He is jealous and heartbroken that we find Him lacking and unattractive, though He has given everything we have to us. He takes care of all our need, gives us life and blesses us with your things, yet we bow to the things of this world, whether actual idols or other things we treasure: stuff, money, position, power, whatever. We look to these things to take care of our wants, to give us more pleasure than we found with the Lord, and He is offended and grieved. He is the only One worthy of our worship and love and attention, because He is the only Author of life, and so His grief rightly turns to wrath.

Application

Though I have the power to choose whether I will live for Him and worship Him alone, I would be a fool to choose anything but full submission and worship of Him alone. All life depends in Him, all good comes from Him. He alone is worthy of my honor and worship and life. I must not grieve Him by turning away from Him or looking to any man-made thing to supply my needs, wants or wishes, but turn to Him alone.
