Thought
Greed is behind so much evil today, whether it is those who are making so much money or those who are envious of the rich. All are motivated by greed, and greed makes men do so kinds of evil, from cheating and extorting and gouging the poor or robbing the rich. It's all evil. God's solution was for people to love their neighbor as themselves, to care for the needy and do good. If everyone cared for and about each other, they would treat each other fairly, reasonably, even generously. If everyone cared more about each other than about getting rich, there would be none of these evils. A government of sinful, greedy people only make it worse, but when Jesus reigns, we will see what God intended. The love of money is truly the source of all kinds of evil.
Application
My goal must never be to get rich or even to be very comfortable. Jesus promised me food and clothing, and with such I should be content. I already have much more than that, so I am richly blessed. My goal should always be to honor the Lord in all I do and care about others any way I can.
