Passage Read: 2 Samuel 2-5
Meditation Verse: 2:8

Thought

Abner did what any kingdom would do, he put the next surviving son on the throne of his dead father. And when Judah made David king, that was like part of Saul's kingdom rebelling against the logical king. But unlike most kingdoms, Israel's king was chosen by God, and almost everyone knew that God had anointed David king over Israel, even while Saul was still alive. So while Abner followed the ways of the nations in making Saul's son king, he should have recognized that David was the rightful king. Instead, he started a civil war. Despite that, David never took it personally, so as to hate Abner and plot his death. David had faith in God, that even though others weren't waking according to God's revealed will, God would still bring His promise to pass. He was after all, already anointed king of Judah, and that was no small thing.

Application

There are those who may oppose me, even when I'm right, but I must not take it personally, so as to view them as my enemy. If I am in the right, the Lord will reveal that in time. I should still be willing to receive them and work with them, trusting that God will bring them around to see the truth in time.
