Passage Read: 1 Chronicles 15-18
Meditation Verse: 17:10

Thought

David couldn't bear the thought of the Lord sitting on His throne in a tent, while David sat on a throne in a cedar house. It was wrong that he should enjoy comforts that the Lord didn't. It was wrong that he should have better things than the Lord. The Lord was God of all creation, far greater than David, and He should have the best, better than any human king enjoyed. That is honor. And because of David's heart for the Lord's honor, the Lord honored David, promising to build him a house that would endure through the ages, like the Lord's name and throne and true house, a building not built with human hands, eternal in the heavens.

Application

There are those who honor the Lord with their lips, but their hearts are far from Him. David wasn't like that. David genuinely wanted the Lord to be honored and exalted. He intended to build a glorious house for the Lord, to exalt Him among men. But the Lord didn't permit it. So David made every preparation he could. He did everything but build the house itself. He drew up the plans, set aside the raw materials, arranged the Levites and priests so everyone knew their place and duty even before the temple was built. David wasn't just talk, and he didn't let a little setback stop him from doing everything he possibly could, without going beyond the Lord's limitation. David was consumed with exalting the Lord, and so should I be. In any and every way possible, I should be working for the Lord to be honored through my life and work, in all I teach and all I do.
