Passage Read: 1 Chronicles 7-10
Meditation Verses: 10:13-14

Thought

Saul died because he was unfaithful to the Lord. He wasn't careful with the Lord's instructions, but altered them as the situation seemed to indicate to him. He justified his disobedience by his circumstances and by what he perceived his needs and the wants of the people to be. So he elevated his and the people's desires above the clear commands of God. That was his unfaithfulness. He didn't honor the Lord as highly as he honored himself or his people. Then, even when he wanted to hear from the Lord, he couldn't. What would be the point of God speaking to him? He already proved he wouldn't obey! So God turned away from him and looked for someone who would honor and obey Him.

Application

I may consider myself creative in my obedience, but what I call clever, God calls disobedient. Others call it hypocrisy. I don't want to provoke the Lord to turn away from me by honoring myself or others above Him. People may not like what He requires or what He desires, but if I don't want to be rejected by Him, I need to honor His Word above the wants and wishes of others. Better to be rejected by people than by God. People can't save me from God, but God can save me from people.
