Passage Read: Jeremiah 37-40
Meditation Verses: 38:17-20
Thought
Zedekiah could have saved Jerusalem, if only he trusted Jeremiah, if only he believed the Lord was speaking through Jeremiah. But he was afraid that things would go badly for him if he gave himself up. He was more afraid for his personal safety than he cared what was best for the city and its people. He didn't believe when Jeremiah assured him that none of his fears would come to pass. His fears were more real than what God promised. And it turned out that things went worse for Zedekiah and for everyone else because of his lack of faith and unwillingness to believe.
Application
The more concerned I am for my safety and reputation, the less able I am to hear the Lord and His instruction. Whatever I fear will happen to me if I obey the Lord, things will go far worse for me if I don't obey Him. Help me hear Your will and act on it, no matter how foolish I look, no matter what I fear others will say about me or do to me.
