Passage Read: Psalm 19-22
Meditation Verses: 22:20-24

Thought

This passage is prophetic of Jesus' suffering and the promise of His resurrection. Did David write it about circumstances in his own life that paralleled Jesus or did he see Jesus from afar? What catches my attention is that in one line, David is crying for help and the next he is praising God, without sign of deliverance. Jesus wasn't delivered from His suffering, but died. But within the days, He rises from the dead! That's worthy of praise! That's the Lord not allowing His Holy One to see decay! Though Jesus suffered the torment of crucifixion and was not rescued from the cross, though His life was lost, yet He was not finished. He rose in triumph over death and over all those who hated Him! His is the ultimate victory.

Application

I can have confidence to praise God for deliverance even if I'm not delivered from even the worst of circumstances, because I know that even death is not the end for me. Especially if I live a life of devotion to the Lord! I too will rise. Even if my circumstances end in death, I have reason to boast and to rejoice, because the Lord will raise me up to enjoy His eternal kingdom, and perhaps even to share in the rule of it! I don't need to be delivered from the hostility of those who hate the Lord and me His servant. I can praise God in the midst of terrible circumstances because I know He will raise me to live forever.
