Passage Read: Job 41 - Psalm 2
Meditation Verses: Psalm 2:9-12
Thought
The Lord has appointed Jesus to rule the nations, and He will rule them with an iron scepter and dash then to pieces. This doesn't seem like the Jesus we talk about in church. The palmist warns the kings of the earth to be wise and be warned: They had better serve the Lord with fear and rejoice with trembling; they had better kiss the Son, bowing the knee in obedience and fealty. If not, His anger can flare up in a moment and He may destroy them. But all who take refuge in Him will be blessed. He is good to those who come to Him in submission and obedience, who align themselves with Him to do whatever He asks. But those who resist Him, He will rebuke and discipline quickly!
Application
Jesus will not tolerate rebellion like the kings of old and the rulers of today. He will rule in righteousness and require all under His authority to walk in that same righteousness. Those who resist will be punished swiftly. Those who humble themselves, especially now while He is still away, awaiting His installation as King, all who humble themselves now will be blessed and honored. Those who welcome and long for His rule will be rewarded. Now is the time to discipline myself to walk in His ways, to fear Him and rejoice with trembling, to kiss Him and welcome His authority and rule in my life. Then when He returns, I'll be honored. But to those who have yet to bow the knee, whether in the Church or outside, I need to warn them that this is the Jesus who is returning.
