Passage Read: Psalm 3-6
Meditation Verse: 5:8
Thought
It is because of his enemies that the psalmist cries out to the Lord. Not just for help against them, but for guidance, for clarity regarding the Lord's will and ways. He needs to know what the Lord desires as righteousness, because his enemies are seeking to attack him in one way or another. They want to ridicule and mock him, shame and belittle him. They want to lie to him and lead him astray, so as to see him condemned by the Lord. So he needs the Lord to show him clearly how He desires him to live, because he wants to be faithful to the Lord despite his enemies. He wants to live such a godly life before his enemies that they may be put to shame, ashamed of their slander and hostility.
Application
How much more do I need to know your will. There are liars not just outside the community of those who call on your name, but there are liars and deceivers within, in high places of leadership and influence. They claim to have studied Your Word and to know the truth, but their teaching doesn't jive with all Scripture. I cannot claim to be wise enough to discern where all they have gone astray, and where they would deliberately lead me astray. I do not want to put You to shame, though many will mock me for following faithfully after You. So teach me clearly, help me to know Your true will and desire, that I may walk in Your ways and not be led astray, not be captured by Your enemies. So that they might rather be put to shame by the godliness and righteousness of my ways.
