Passage Read: Psalm 51-54
Meditation Verses: 51:16-17
Thought
What God has sought from the beginning of time and continues to seek until the end of time is a broken and contrite heart. What God values far more than sacrifices and offerings is a heart that submits to Him and His will, that is eager to know Him and do His will, that is quick to respond rightly to correction and guidance. Humility is the crown jewel of Christianity, of Judaism, of seeking and knowing and worshiping God. Humility trusts God and obeys God, so it has no need of sacrifice, except for fellowship and thanks and praise offerings. It is quick to respond to correction and rebuke, so it is a delight to lead, a delight to instruct and a delight to fellowship with.
Application
The only sacrifice God seeks is that of a humble and contrite heart. He loves such a person and delights to reveal Himself to those who trust completely in Him. I need to be responsive to His every word, not just those I like. I need to give up all my wants and wishes and adopt His as my life purpose. The more I do that, the less I'll fail to do His will, the less I'll offend Him and need to seek forgiveness. He will delight in me because He will be my greatest delight!
