Passage Read: Psalm 27-30
Meditation Verses: 27:1-5
Thought
It is because of David's longing for the Lord and delight in Him that he has nothing to fear. Even if men should seek his life or war breaks out against him, he has nothing to fear, because the Lord protects his life. It is because David loves the Lord so much that he longs to dwell forever in the house of the Lord and look upon His glory and beauty. He has seen a glimpse of the Lord and is so blown away by the Lord's glory and goodness, that he cannot get enough of it, and is grieved to be held at a distance from it or that he must come and go, catching only brief sight of Him here and there. How much better to remain forever in the presence of the Lord, gazing at His beauty! This is the kind of person who has no fear of trouble, because the Lord delights in him.
Application
The Lord doesn't protect my life because I claim to believe in Him, because I prayed a prayer but go on my merry way. He secures the life of those who love Him more than life! Actually, death is about the only way to gain access to the presence of the Lord forever, but those who delight in the Lord like David does are the ones who enjoy favor and protection from death and destruction, even while standing in the midst of it! It's backwards! Those who most love their life have the least confidence in its security and work so hard to protect it! But those who find themselves in danger again and again because of their devotion to the Lord have the least to fear and the most confidence in their security--even if they should die! I want to love the Lord like David does, for now he has his desire!
