Passage Read: James 2-3
Meditation Verse: 2:25

Thought

Rahab believed God would overthrow Jericho and so she acted. She didn't just believe and give up, she welcomed the spies and pleaded for her life and the life of her family. Whether her family also believed, Scripture doesn't say. They followed Rahab's instruction, but if they didn't believe, they still died in their sins eventually. So following the rules without faith doesn't save, but neither does having a "faith" that prompts no action. If you believe something is true, it affects how you act. That's James' point here. If you claim to believe something is true but it doesn't affect how you live, then you don't really believe what you claim to believe.

Application

I need to live in fear and awe of God, I need to see Him as He truly is, high and exalted and holy and righteous! And seeing Him as He is, it should drive me to be concerned about how I live. I too need to be holy and righteous and do good to others, because I believe the Lord and trust His promise of salvation and reward.
