Passage Read: Hebrews 11-12
Meditation Verse: 11:31
Thought
By faith Rahab, though a harlot, knew enough to save her life and the life of her family. She understood the times, she understood what was coming, she recognized that the God of the Israelites was going to give them victory over unconquerable Jericho. So she welcomed the spies in peace, and made peace with them. She may not have known that harlotry was forbidden in Israel, or maybe she did, but she was more concerned for her life and the life of her family than to hang onto anything from her current life. She chose to give up everything but her family, as long as the Israelites let them live. And they did, she eventually marrying into the lineage of Christ.
Application
The wisdom of Rahab was to see the inevitable and choose obedience to God rather than attempt to fight against the Lord, knowing full well you'll lose. And those that lost perished eternally. They were not granted a second chance to repent and submit to God and be brought into the family of God. They died, and we're eternally lost. The choice to submit and obey is only available up to the point of judgment. Once judgment began, there was no hope for the people of Jericho. But though judgment had begun, there was still a promise to Rahab and her family, and the promise was kept. Likewise, God will not forget me, even if the world should pour out all its enmity on me. The Lord remains faithful to those who have chosen to submit to and obey Him.
