Passage Read: Hebrews 9-10
Meditation Verses: 10:26,29

Thought

The one who keeps on sinning after hearing the Gospel and understanding the Truth, this one is in great danger, because he is claiming to believe the Gospel, but yet treating it as if it is nothing of value. Jesus suffered and died to pay for our sins, to purchase forgiveness of sins for us. If we continue to sin without care or concern, if we think we can go on in sin because of His sacrifice, the writer of Hebrews is saying that we then trample the Son of God underfoot and treat His blood as unholy and insult the Spirit of grace! How utterly inconsiderate. What Jesus did for us is an incredible act of mercy, one we did not deserve, and He did it because we had no hope in our sins. It was sin that separated us from God, and having been forgiven because of the sacrifice of Jesus, shall we then continue in sin? God forbid! What an insult to Jesus!

Application

If I don't recognize by the Gospel how much God hates sin, I haven't really understood the Gospel. If the Gospel does not convict me of sin and put a hatred of sin in me, then I haven't really understood the Gospel. I understand the Gospel correctly when I realize how great a gift I've been given through it, how much God was willing to suffer to buy me back from condemnation and how much God hates sin. I need to see Jesus' sacrifice for my sin as of incomparable value, and honor it as such, which means my life must be changed. I must hate sin and avoid it at all costs. To do otherwise is to insult Christ and make myself liable to eternal judgment.
