Passage Read: Hebrews 1-2
Meditation Verse: 2:8
Thought
Everything is subject to Jesus, but Jesus is not yet visibly reigning over all. So we do not see Him, though He has been made ruler of all. He does not punish everything immediately in such a way that we know beyond the shadow of a doubt that He has opposed it. He is Lord of all, but He has not yet taken full control. He still allows men to go their own way, in grace and mercy that they might yet repent, or so that they fill up the full measure of their sin. When He visible reigns, He will not tolerate sin like He does today.
Application
I shouldn't be surprised that men still get away with sin for so long at this time. Though Jesus reigns, He is operating by different principles than when He rules visibly on earth. Now is the day of salvation, where a man still has a chance to hear and believe the Gospel, when a man can still gain life by faith. When Jesus reigns visibly, there will be no room left for faith; we will all see Him and be obligated to honor Him fully as Lord of creation. Men do not really get away with sin nowadays, it is stored up against them, unless they repent and believe in Jesus today. A reckoning is coming, with Jesus' return, but for now, men need to hear the Gospel and believe it to be saved. So I still have this work to do, until then when Jesus reigns, then I'll have a different work to do.
