Passage Read: Revelation 1-2
Meditation Verse: 2:20
Thought
The church in Thyatira allowed a women to teach, a woman who claims to be a prophetess, and she teaches God's children to go astray, to commit fornication and to eat idol sacrifices. Why is it that the teaching of women all tends to lead to these things? This woman claimed to be a prophetess, which suggests she was pushing herself forward. It wasn't that others had found her to be a prophetess. And of course, she was bringing new teachings that turned God's people away from His ways. So in that way, she was a prophetess, but a false prophetess. But by pushing herself forward, she was already rejecting God's teaching that women should not teach or have authority over men. So from the start, she is not in line with God and His ways. Why would anyone expect her to be a faithful teacher of Truth? From the beginning, she is not interested in justifying God, but herself.
Application
There have been plenty of false prophets, but any woman who puts herself forward as a teacher or leader, especially of men, is already gone astray from God! Sure, some women have the gift of prophecy, but the approved ones never seek leadership or to teach men, they are sought out, and they don't seek to give up their home duties, but remain under their husbands and workers at home. Any woman can be wise and worth seeking counsel from, but only if she is fully submitted to God. And if she is fully submitted to God, then she will be fully committed to serving her husband and family and unwilling to take leadership over men or a position and role of teaching men.
