Passage Read: Genesis 21-24
Meditation Verses: 24:12-14

Thought

If someone told me today that they had done something like this to find their wife, I would think they were careless. The servant made sure to confirm that Rebekah was from Abraham's relatives, which helped confirm that she was the right one. But this method was actually successful. God blessed it and used it to direct the servant to the right family. A safer and more logical solution would be to ask for Laban's family, go to them and see what daughters they had available. But the servant used this method instead and the Lord blessed it. It seems frivolous to me to use such a method, when there are more sensible methods to achieve the same result, without chance of going astray. But can I trust the Lord to show His will through prayer and intervention?

Application

Here I am, praying that God would close all doors but one, to guide me to the place He wants me, but do I believe He will do that? Or do I believe the wrong place might give me an offer and I'll miss the place He really wants for me? Lord, the sensible thing to do is to put out a bunch of applications and hope only the one gives me an offer. And I've done that. While a job is not a marriage, and there is flexibility, would You help me believe that You will only open the door You desire for me? There was the matter of that girl being from Abraham's relatives, and that ended up being a confirmation that the Lord had indeed led in the matter. I don't know what similar requirement to set as confirmation.
