Passage Read: Isaiah 7-10
Meditation Verse: 10:20
Thought
The people of Israel and Judah were more impressed by those who overthrew them than by the Lord. They trusted in men and their might more than they trusted in the Lord. When a foreign power defeated them and made them vassals, they leaned on that nation for protection. When they were threatened by a powerful nation they didn't like, they turned to other powerful nations to help them fight off the one that threatened them. They didn't trust in the Lord; they didn't believe in the Lord, that He could do anything good or bad. If they even worshiped Him, they only went through the motions, and looked to other gods for help too. God was no better to them than any other idol, best to sacrifice to many, in case one could actually do something.
Application
Whom do I fear? Do I fear the Lord or do I fear men? Am I afraid to ignore God's instruction or more afraid of breaking the rules of certain people? If I really believe in the Lord, then I should have at least the same level of obedience towards Him that I have for the rules and laws of men. If I really believe in Him, then I should fear Him even more. And trust Him to save more than I trust in men.
