Passage Read: Song of Solomon 3-6
Meditation Verses: 5:2-6
Thought
Her beloved came and asked her to open to him, but she didn't want to get up at first. She hesitated, then got up to open to him, but then he was gone. She went out to seek him, but the watchmen punished her instead of helping her. It was not good for her to delay when her beloved came for her, she should have responded quickly and welcomed him, rather than think of the effort involved in getting up and opening the door. When desire finally overcame her hesitation, it was too late, and she suffered because of it.
Application
It is a good thing for a wife to respond quickly to her husband's desire, and it is good to have a wife who does so. But it is also important to recognize that when Jesus has an instruction, I too should respond quickly to it, not hesitate only to regret missing the opportunity to spend time with Him, doing as He asked. I shouldn't consider the cost involved as something too great to bear. I should just respond quickly to His every prompting.
