Passage Read: Job 9-12
Meditation Verse: 10:3

Thought

Job has worked hard to be righteous, so that he expects everything to go well for him. He has done everything he knows to do in order to satisfy God's requirements. So when this happens, he cannot understand. Because his righteousness is more about him than about God. He does what is right for his own good rather than simply because it is right and God deserves his obedience. If he understood that his life was for God, to show God as right, then his confidence in his righteousness wouldn't lead him to question God and even accuse God of wrong. He would know that he exists to glorify God and prove Him right in all circumstances.

Application

Job's response in the first two chapters were perfect, but instead of dwelling on the right of God to display His glory through His creation, whether in good times or evil, he dwelt on the unjustness of his circumstances. He couldn't find his sin, so God must be doing him wrong. He had no understanding that those who suffer according to God's will and not because of their own sin would be repaid in time by the Lord. But thanks to Job's suffering, we now have this insight. My life is in God's hands to do with as He pleases, and He desires to be honored--is worthy of honor--whether things go well for me or badly.
