Passage Read: Psalm 51-54
Meditation Verse: 51:13
Thought
This psalm is an amazingly full picture of true repentance. There is the shame over sin and the desire to be disciplined, that he might be cleansed of the sin, cleansed so that it doesn't come back. There is the praying for a cleansed conscience and restored relationship, and the confidence that it will come, such that he will be bold to teach other transgressors of the Lord's ways, both the ways of righteous behavior and the way of restoration from sin. David did not repeat these sins, he was restored to close fellowship with the Lord, he never stopped replying on the Lord. He was fully committed to walking in obedience to the Lord because he was so filled with His love for him.
Application
When confronted by my sin, it is not the end of the world! It is, however, a huge wake-up call! I should be ashamed of my sin, I should hate what I have done wrong, so much so that I would plead with God to do whatever it takes to cleanse me from that sin stain, but also to drive that sin far from me so that I would never do it again! Yet I shouldn't leave all the responsibility with Him to fix me, but I should commit myself to never doing that thing again. And in gratitude to the Lord, I should be willing to teach other sinners what I have learned of God and for victory over sin, which should be entirely attainable, not impossible to obtain as seems to be commonly believed.
