Thought

This is such a wise statement: Solomon for all his wisdom could not resist his foreign wives, but succumbed to their pressure and was led astray from the Lord by them, and through him, the whole nation was led into sin because of his foreign wives. Solomon was the wisest man on earth, yet he was overcome by his foreign wives. If Solomon couldn't resist the influence of his foreign wives, who are any of the rest of us to think we could resist the influence of an unbelieving spouse? That is the height of arrogance!

Application

Anyone who truly loves the Lord should have a hard time finding much in common with an unbeliever, so on the one hand I need to help and encourage believers to love the Lord with all their heart and soul and mind and strength. But still this truth needs to be taught and proclaimed and required among believers, to warn them against loving anything or anyone more than the Lord. It is a trap and a snare to be bound together with unbelievers, but sadly that is only obvious to those who earnestly want to know and love the Lord.
