Passage Read: Judges 18-21
Meditation Verses: 20:4-7
Thought
How easy it is to conceal information that could make me look bad, that could complicate matters when an issue of injustice arises. There was a serious problem with the men of Gibeah, and another problem with the Benjamites, since they were unwilling to hand over the men who committed such evil. But the Levite was no angel! It would seem the girl had reason to flee from him, and sadly, her father doesn't appear to have done much to protect her from him. Is it any wonder that the Lord allowed Benjamin to kill so many Israelites? They were fighting a just fight, but not innocent of wrong themselves.
Application
Before I go to "war" for anyone else, I need to be careful to get both sides of any dispute as clear as I can. Otherwise, I may be in a just fight, but I may be fighting for someone who isn't as innocent as they appear, and may share in their discipline. I too need to be careful before I rally troops to my cause, because I may not be as innocent as I'd like to believe.
