Passage Read: Joshua 18-21
Meditation Verse: 18:3

Thought

Judah, Ephraim, Gad, Reuben and the half-tribe of Manasseh had all claimed their inheritance. The rest of the tribes remained in camp, waiting for their allotment. Four and a half tribes just asked for or took what they wanted. Because of God's promises to Caleb and Joseph, their two tribes already had an idea what they would inherit, but Reuben and Gad saw some land and asked for it. There was no formal apportionment of the land, so none of the remaining tribes did anything. Fortunately, Joshua didn't leave them hanging, and arranged to parcel out the land to them.

Application

Some people are more visionary and ambitious. They know what they want when they see it, and either claim it or ask for it. Each tribe that asked, received. But each tribe that didn't ask, that had no special preference, also received. But when God has offered something, I don't need to wait to ask for it or seek it. I won't miss out if I don't ask, but if I know what He is offering, I can ask and shouldn't be afraid to do so! He's offering an eternal inheritance, and I've already claimed salvation, but there is more on offer. There is a greater and a lesser resurrection, and I can pursue the greater by giving up more of my wants and wishes and possessions and life to serve Him and His Gospel. Will I just sit around and wait for my allotment, or will I get up and chase what I desire? That is the question.
